  As concerns about our dependence on fossil fuels continue to grow, the need for an alternative form of energy becomes ever more apparent. While nuclear power is the most viable option, it is certain to face challenges in the future. Before we begin expanding the use of nuclear energy to supply baseload power, we must further enhance its safety and security. These issues are of vital importance if nuclear power is to remain a major supplier of energy in the future. That’s why our chosen theme for the 2006 ANS student conference is: “Nuclear Power: A Look at the Future.”
